    Unmatched Performance

“Plastic Fusion was hired to test, repair, and replace existing pond liners on a restart project. The scope of work included installing a new insulated HDPE cover on the existing AD lagoon. Not only was the quality of the crew’s work exceptional, PFF was given the “A Team” award for outstanding work ethic.”

      Protective Geomembrane Covers

Plastic Fusion Fabricators installs protective geomembrane covers for wastewater lagoons, leachate ponds, secondary containment areas, landfill systems, and industrial basins. Our geomembrane covers are custom-fabricated from HDPE, LLDPE, and reinforced polypropylene — engineered to protect water quality, contain emissions, prevent contamination, and shield environmental systems from weather, UV exposure, and unauthorized access.

A geomembrane cover is a continuous, impermeable synthetic barrier deployed over an open liquid surface or containment area. Unlike partial-coverage products, tarps, or consumer pond covers, an engineered geomembrane cover is fabricated to your basin dimensions, fusion-welded at every seam, anchored for wind uplift and thermal cycling, and tested for leak-tight integrity. It’s containment infrastructure — designed, installed, and documented to the same standards as the geomembrane liner systems beneath it.

With 40+ years in floating cover and environmental containment installation, Plastic Fusion delivers geomembrane cover systems that are engineered for your application and built for decades of service.

      Applications

      • Wastewater treatment lagoon and pond covers
      • Leachate collection pond covers
      • Secondary containment area covers
      • Landfill cap and closure cover systems
      • Dry-stack tailings covers for mining operations
      • Industrial process basin covers
      • Stormwater retention and detention basin covers
      • Tank farm and containment berm covers
      • Potable water reservoir protection covers
      • Agricultural waste and manure pond covers

      Cover Functions

Every geomembrane cover serves one or more of these functions — and the material, thickness, and design are selected based on which functions your project requires:

      • Water quality protection — blocking airborne contamination, debris, and UV-driven algae growth
      • Evaporation control — reducing water loss by 95–98% in open basins
      • Odor containment — sealing H₂S, ammonia, and VOC emissions at the source
      • Heat retention — insulated covers maintaining basin temperature for biological processes
      • Biogas capture — gas-tight covers integrated with collection systems for methane recovery
      • Rain exclusion — preventing stormwater from entering containment or diluting treatment processes
      • Wildlife and bird deterrence — physical barrier preventing access to open water

      Protective Geomembrane Cover FAQs

What is a protective geomembrane cover?

A protective geomembrane cover is a synthetic, impermeable barrier — typically HDPE, LLDPE, or reinforced polypropylene — installed over an open liquid surface, containment area, or waste system to manage fluid migration, control emissions, and protect the environment. Geomembrane covers are custom-fabricated, fusion-welded at every seam, and anchored for long-term performance. They serve as floating covers on liquid surfaces or as fixed covers over containment areas, depending on the application.

What materials are geomembrane covers made from?

The most common materials are HDPE (high-density polyethylene) for chemical resistance and long-term durability, LLDPE (linear low-density polyethylene) for greater flexibility in complex geometries, and reinforced polypropylene for applications requiring high puncture resistance and UV stability. Material selection depends on chemical exposure, UV intensity, temperature range, and whether the cover is floating or fixed.

How are geomembrane covers different from tarps or standard covers?

Engineered geomembrane covers are fabricated to exact basin dimensions, fusion-welded at every seam for continuous impermeability, anchored with engineered systems for wind uplift and thermal cycling, and tested for leak-tight integrity before acceptance. Tarps and standard covers are off-the-shelf products with mechanical seams that leak, no anchoring engineering, and no QA/QC testing. For environmental containment, regulatory compliance, or long-term performance, an engineered geomembrane cover is the only option.

How long do geomembrane covers last?

Properly installed geomembrane covers deliver 20–30+ years of service life. UV-stabilized HDPE and reinforced polypropylene are designed for continuous outdoor exposure. Longevity depends on UV intensity, chemical exposure, wind loading, and the quality of the original seam welding and anchoring.
