Unmatched Performance
“Plastic Fusion was hired to test, repair, and replace existing pond liners on a restart project. The scope of work included installing a new insulated HDPE cover on the existing AD lagoon. Not only was the quality of the crew’s work exceptional, PFF was given the “A Team” award for outstanding work ethic.”

Landfill Cover Systems
Plastic Fusion Fabricators designs, fabricates, and installs engineered landfill cover systems — exposed geomembrane covers that control infiltration, gas, and odor over active and inactive landfill areas. These are engineered, installed cover solutions, not commodity tarps: fusion-welded geomembrane systems built to seal a landfill surface, manage rainwater and gas, and hold up to the field conditions a working landfill demands. For temporary, intermediate, and interim cover needs, PFF installs the cover system the site actually requires.
A landfill cover does real work: it keeps rainwater out of the waste mass to reduce leachate, it contains odors and gas, and it controls erosion on exposed slopes. Lightweight tarps and sheeting handle the lightest daily-cover duties, but areas that stay exposed for months or seasons — inactive cells, intermediate slopes, areas awaiting final closure — need an engineered geomembrane cover that’s welded, anchored, and built to perform. That’s the difference between a cover you buy by the roll and a cover system that’s installed to contain.
With 40+ years installing geomembrane covers and containment systems across 24 states, Plastic Fusion fabricates and installs landfill cover systems engineered to the site — for temporary and interim coverage, gas and odor control, and infiltration reduction on exposed landfill areas.
Landfill Cover Applications
- Temporary and interim covers — exposed geomembrane covers for inactive cells and areas awaiting closure
- Intermediate covers — sealing slopes and surfaces that stay exposed between filling phases
- Infiltration reduction — keeping rainwater out of the waste mass to reduce leachate generation
- Gas and odor control — containing emissions on exposed areas
- Erosion control — stabilizing exposed slopes against storm washout
- Rain and seasonal covers — protecting areas during wet seasons
Engineered Cover Systems vs. Commodity Tarps
The difference between a landfill cover system and a tarp is whether it’s engineered and installed to contain. PFF’s covers are fusion-welded geomembrane — HDPE, LLDPE, or RPP — deployed in panels, welded into a continuous surface, and anchored to stay put and perform. We size the material to the exposure and duration, weld the panels into a sealed surface, and anchor the system against wind and slope. The result is a cover that actually manages infiltration and gas over the months or seasons an area stays exposed, not a tarp that tears and blows.
Landfill Cover vs. Landfill Cap
A landfill cap is the permanent final closure system installed when a cell or facility reaches capacity — a multi-layer engineered system that stays in place for the long term. A landfill cover is the temporary or interim system used during the landfill’s operating life to control infiltration, gas, and odor on areas that aren’t yet at final closure. Plastic Fusion installs both — the right system for where the landfill is in its life cycle.

Landfill Cover FAQs
What is a landfill cover?
A landfill cover is a system installed over landfill waste to control rainwater infiltration, contain gas and odor, and reduce erosion. Covers range from lightweight daily covers applied to active cells to engineered geomembrane systems used on areas that stay exposed for longer periods. Plastic Fusion installs engineered geomembrane cover systems — fusion-welded HDPE, LLDPE, or RPP — for temporary, interim, and intermediate coverage where a sealed, durable cover is needed.
What is the difference between a landfill cover and a landfill cap?
A landfill cap is the permanent final closure installed when a cell or the facility reaches capacity — a multi-layer engineered system designed to stay in place long term. A landfill cover is the temporary or interim system used during the operating life of the landfill to control infiltration, gas, and odor on areas not yet at final closure. The cover manages an active or inactive area; the cap permanently closes a completed one. Plastic Fusion installs both.
Are engineered geomembrane covers better than tarps?
For areas that stay exposed beyond daily cover, yes. Lightweight tarps and sheeting tear, blow, and let water and gas through over time. An engineered geomembrane cover is fusion-welded into a continuous, anchored surface that actually seals the area — controlling infiltration and gas over the months or seasons an inactive cell or slope stays exposed. The right choice depends on how long the area will be covered and what the cover needs to contain.
What materials do you use for landfill covers?
We install HDPE, LLDPE, and RPP geomembrane covers, with the material and thickness selected for the exposure conditions and the duration the cover will be in place. LLDPE offers flexibility and conformance for covers over irregular surfaces, while HDPE and RPP offer durability for longer-term exposed applications. We help specify the right material for the cover’s purpose and service life.
